Skin Types

Not everyone’s skin type is the same, so before you choose a skincare regimen, get well acquainted with your skin.

Looking after your skin pays dividends – after all it’s yours for life. To keep skin looking tiptop and your skincare regimen effective, it’s important to keep an eye on things at pore level and be prepared to switch products as your skin changes.

Lots of different things can affect your skin. It’s not only your surroundings or the environment that has an effect; things like emotional upsets, pregnancy, menopause or a change of location can alter the way your skin behaves.

Let’s take a closer look at normal/combination skin.

Normal/Combination

People often start off their lives with normal or combination skin.

Normal skin:

  • Is even, soft, smooth and plump
  • Has a firm texture
  • Has good elasticity
  • Has even colour without red or dark patches
  • Has small to medium sized pores
  • Is free from blemishes
  • Is neither dry nor oily
  • Looks healthy and beautiful.

Combination skin is the most common skin type and can vary between dry and oily. If you massage the excess oil to dryer areas, it can help maintain normal skin. This type of skin is prone to blackheads in the oil-prone T-zone (the area across the forehead and down the middle of the face), as well as the chin, jaw line and temples, whilst the rest of the face is dry or normal.

Skin pores in normal to oily skin are usually medium sized and the overall appearance is normal and healthy.

Daily and weekly regimen for normal and combination skin types:

Morning regimen:

  1. Use a light lotion cleaner.
  2. Follow up with a toner to help remove any residual cleansing lotion.
  3. Finish with a light moisturiser.

Night regimen:

  1. Use a light lotion cleanser.
  2. Follow up with a toner to help remove any residual cleansing lotion.
  3. Next apply antioxidant serum as a preventative.
  4. Finish with a light moisturiser.

Weekly regimen:

  1. Exfoliate twice a week with a gently exfoliant – in the evening.
  2. Use a mud mask every other week – in the evening.

Natural and organic products are much closer to naturally occurring substances in the skin and can keep your skin looking younger and more vibrant.
